The Best Date Spots in the Annex
This is the first in a series of posts that focuses on venues that provide for a relaxed and laidback environment to go out on a date or to just plain hang out. All these places I’ve personally checked out or I’ve been recommended through friends and word of mouth. The criteria for selecting these venues was based on a combination of ambiance, atmosphere (or “vibe”), unique characteristics, service and of course price.
T Café

It’s a cozy little café on the southwest corner of Bloor and Borden St, they offer a great selection of both hot and cold tapas that you can share – all for under $10. In addition to that, they have a decent selection of 48 different teas that that are of the black, green, herbal, white and rooibos tea variations that you can try out and share with your date.
During the warmer months of the year they have a spacious patio to soak up the sun while conversing over the hum of city sounds.

A great spot known for its brunches brunch date and attracts a crowd from all walks of life, this cozy café occupies the northwest corner of Bloor and Brunswick St in the Annex. You can find reasonably priced brunch, lattes, wine and Middle Eastern fare. If you prefer eating outside, their patio has a canopy over it to shield you from the sun and elements.
Future Bakery & Cafe

Known as an institution in the Annex is embraced by city and coveted by students for its generous portions. It is also widely known for its borscht, perogies, brunch and sangria & drinks on their awesome patio. “Futures” is definitely a great spot to soak up the Annex atmosphere while enjoying the company of your date or friends.
Aroma Espresso Cafe
500 Bloor St West
Located on the northwest corner of Bloor and Albany, Aroma differentiates itself from its competitors by offering a plethora of cappuccinos, coffee options and a charming atmosphere, it’s a welcome departure from the Starbucks and Second Cups that occupy every single block of the city.
For non-coffee drinkers, they offer heavenly hot chocolate with yes, REAL chocolate.
Pauper’s Pub

There are no surprises here. It’s what you would expect of a traditional neighbourhood pub, providing cozy dimly lit environment and conveniently located one block east of Bathurst and Bloor and the subway station. The best part of Pauper’s Pub is that they have a roomy side patio and even a rooftop patio to chill out and soak up the sun and city sounds.
