Deal: For Beer Lovers – Visit your local Microbrewery

Here’s a little something out of the ordinary for a cheap date idea – visit your local Microbrewery!

Whether you’re a beer lover or not, this allows you to explore the art and science behind beer making.  While this is surely a hit for guys, it might be a tough sell for women who aren’t into beer culture – so do your research on appropriate places to take your date first!

Microbrewery tours shouldn’t cost more than $10, which gives you a tour of the key areas of their plant as well as giving a backstory of how their company came into being.

But the point of checking out a tour at your local Microbrewery isn’t for their history is it? It’s to get pissed drunk. It’s to enjoy their fruits of the labour in their beer tastings afterwards! ;)

Here are some specific recommendations for Torontonians:

Steam Whistle

First of the microbreweries to open its doors of its brewing facility – The Roundhouse – to the public in 2000.  Not only have they won multiple awards for their tasty yet crisp German-style pilsner, they’re also right across the street from the Skydome Rogers Centre so you can catch a Jays or Argos game before or after your tour.

Tip: naturally the bartenders will give you one or two extra half pints on top of what you’ll customarily get. If you tip the bartender well ($1-2), expect more to come your way ;)

Times for their tour are:

Monday to Saturday
Open: Noon to 6pm
Tour Times: Every 30 minutes beginning at 1pm
Last tour at 5pm.

Sunday
Open: Noon to 5pm
Tour Times: Every 30 minutes beginning at 1pm
Last tour at 4pm.

Tour Size: 15 people
Reservations accepted Monday to Thursday,
Booked first-come first-served on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Our Beer store is open on all statutory holidays except for Christmas Day and New Years Day.

Prices for their tour are:

  • $8 for their souvenir tour
  • $15 for their 6-pack tour
  • $26 for their 12-pack tour

You can contact them in advance if you have any questions or click HERE for their direct link.

Amsterdam Beer

Not too far from Steam Whistle is the Amsterdam Brewery which isn’t too far from Steam Whistle if you’re daring enough to schedule back-to-back tours of these two microbreweries in the heart of Downtown Toronto.

Prices for their tour are:

  • $6 for 8 beer samples
  • $8 for 8 beer samples and souvenir pint glass

You should call in advance to find out when they offer tours.

You can reach them at 416-504-6880 or click HERE for their direct link.

If you’re a sports fan, be sure to check out the Jays or Argos before or after the tour to get your ‘spirits up’!

Enjoy! And of course remember to drink safely and responsibly ;)

I love going to the Steam Whistle brewery. One other thing to mention is that they have a nice big tv where they'll sometimes be airing whatever sports game is playing, and, they always have a nice selection of art pieces on display in the main lobby area that you can buy if you like.

There aren't any Mill St. Brewery tours? Doing that would be a great date if only because the Distillery District is so awesome.

thanks for the comment and feedback. Yeah, apparently Mill St. doesn't do any… perhaps I'll give them a call to encourage them to start them again :)
